Fashion Friday {Boudoir Portraits in Syracuse, NY}

It’s officially autumn here in the Syracuse area.  Our back acreage is showing the signs of an early fall as the leaves are already starting to change colors and fall from the trees.  Guess what that means?  It’s football season!! This Fashion Friday boudoir lingerie board gives a whole new meaning to “fantasy football”.  **wink, wink**

How to choose the best lingerie for your body type {Boudoir Photography, Syracuse}

Lingerie by body typeNo matter what your body type is, the most important thing to remember is to select lingerie that fits you properly.  Many women have never been fitted for a bra and end up choosing the wrong size.  I’d recommend getting properly fitted by a sales associate at one of the specialty lingerie shops or even one of the major department stores.  This will help to ensure that you select garments that will complement your figure.  No matter your size or shape, you will want to remember the key to choosing the best lingerie is to accentuate your positive and minimize any areas you are not happy with.

The Apple – This body type usually has lean legs, but carries the bulk of the weight through the waist.  Some women with this body type have a larger chest as well.  We will want to draw attention to the legs or up to the face (or both).  A great way to do that is to try a corset with boy shorts.  This will pull in the waist a bit, trimming away inches, while showing off those beautiful legs.  Another option is a sexy slip, camisole, or even a flowing baby doll that gently skims over the tummy.  If you do have a larger bust, be sure to choose a good-fitting bra with an underwire to help give lift and support.

The Pear – This body type usually has a smaller chest and a nicely defined waist, but carries more weight in the thighs and hips.  We will want to draw attention up to the chest and face.  This is a great opportunity to try out lingerie that has a padded bra, or ruffles up top, or perhaps give that lace-trimmed demi-bra a try and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised how much larger your chest will seem.  Keeping the lower half simple and the upper half busy will naturally balance out this body type.  You’ll want to avoid baby doll nighties and over-sized sweaters or your man’s jersey as these will just add more bulk to your lower half.

The Hourglass – This curvy body type has a smaller, defined waist with hips and chest that are larger and proportionate to each other.  This is a classic female shape so we want to be sure to choose outfits that flatter those curves.  A great way to do that is to choose garments that accentuate the chest and hips, while also keeping the defined waist.  I’d suggest you choose a bra that has extra support and an underwire.  Corsets with boy shorts will also work very well for this shape, as will the high-waisted panties with a full coverage bra.

The Column – This is usually the athletic woman who has narrow shoulders, a small chest, no defined waist and narrow hips.  What we want to do is create some curves!  A great way to do that is to choose garments that accentuate the chest and hips such as a push-up bra and ruffled boy shorts, a bustier with boy shorts, or even a boned corset and panty set.  If you are going to choose a coordinating bra and panty set, you will want to try panties that have a brazillian cut or are high-cut at the thighs in order to reveal more leg.  You’ll want to avoid slips and baby dolls as they tend to hide too much and do not create enough curves.

Regardless of your body type, every outfit will benefit from accessories to pull the whole outfit together.  I often recommend thigh high stockings, a killer pair of heels, and jewelry that complements your skin tone.

PS – Special thanks to AIBP for the cute body type artwork above.

Summer fresh face masks

Summer Face Mask
Face masks are a great way to feed your skin healthy antioxidants. After a long day, nothing is better than kicking up my feet and pampering myself with a summer fresh face mask.

Strawberries are in season from late spring to early summer and they make the perfect snack alone or in salads, but they are also a great ingredient to use in face masks, since they’re packed with vitamin C. They are also rich in alpha-hydroxy acids which help exfoliate the skin. So fresh strawberry masks are great for people with dull, damaged or acne-prone skin.  We have a small strawberry patch in our backyard which produces about 3 pints of strawberries a week and, often times, the berries never even make it to my kitchen as I snack on them while picking.  Ha ha ha

Anyway, before trying any homemade mask on your face, you should spot test it on your neck or hand to see if your skin reacts. If you’re clear, wash your face with your favorite cleanser before applying the mask mix on your face.  Here’s how to make the mask.  You’ll need:

– 5 fresh strawberries, with stems removed
– 1/2 tablespoon of plain yogurt or heavy cream (yogurt for oily skin, cream for dry skin)
– 2 teaspoons of honey

In a bowl, mash the strawberries with a fork until smooth. Add the honey and yogurt (for oily complexions) or cream (for dry skin) and mix until the ingredients are well-incorporated. Using clean hands, gently apply the mixture all over your face, avoiding the eye area. Sit back and relax with the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes. Wash it away with warm water, pat your face dry and follow up with your favorite toner and moisturizer.

Strawberry facial maskExtra Tidbits:

Facial Scrub.  If you prefer a scrub instead of a mask, you can mash together about a dozen strawberries with 1 teaspoon of pure cane sugar and 1 teaspoon of olive oil.  Scrub gently in a circular motion around your face and neck as a natural exfoliant.  When done, simply rinse off and pat dry.  Your skin will look fresh and glowing.

Reduce puffy eyes.  Slice down strawberries and keep two of the slices on your eyes and relax for 10 minutes.  The same can be done with cucumbers.

Soothing Foot Scrub.  Slough away rough skin on your feet by mashing together 8 strawberries, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and 1 teaspoon of kosher salt.

De-tan your skin.  Strawberries help in lightening pigmentation marks also. For both these purposes just mix lemon juice and strawberries, mash together, and apply for 15 minutes, then wash it off.  Gently massage this “paste” to your feet, allow to sit for a few minutes, then wash off and dry.

Get that natural glow.  Mash together strawberries with cocoa powder and honey to get a bit of a summer glow to your skin.  Simply apply to skin for 15 minutes and then wash it off.

5 Photo Worthy Manicures {Cicero Boudoir Photos}

When it comes to boudoir worthy manicures, I prefer looks that are clean, simple and timeless. Here are my 5 favorite photo worthy manicures for your photo boudoir photo session.

Simple: If you prefer the simpler things in life, I suggest going without any polish at all.  Just use a nail buffer to add natural shine to your nails.  This is the simplest and quickest manicure and you can even do it yourself so no trip to the salon is required (unless you just want to go and be pampered, which is always fun).

French Tips:   My own fingernails, shown here, naturally grow with white tips.  But if your’s do not, simply ask your nail salon for a French manicure.  Or, if you want to do it yourself, just paint the tips of your nails with white polish.

SeductivelyYou_ManicuredNails

Whimsical: For a simple spin on your standard French manicure, try swapping out the white for your favorite glittery accent color. To get the look pictured, gloss on two coats of your favorite clear polish, then carefully trace the tip of your nail with a glittery polish such as Butter London’s Fairy Cake Nail Lacquer. To seal the deal, finish it off with a top coat.

SeductivelyYou_GlitterNails

Classic: When I think of a timeless manicure, soft shades of blush pinks come to mind.  My favorite muted pink polish is You Cannoli Imagine by OPI.  For a modern spin on the version shown here, use a matte topcoat.  OPI even makes one and it’s clearly labeled as MATTE right on the top of the bottle.

SeductivelyYou_PinkNails

Glam: Aside from nail art, these past two years have been all about the “accent” nail.  I love this look when paired with a sparkly cocktail ring. It adds a lovely dose of understated glam that’s not completely over the top. For this look, use Essie’s Fiji and some craft-grade glitter. To get the super-sparkly accent nail, apply a thick base coat, and sprinkle the glitter over the top while the base is still wet. Once it is completely dry, finish it off with a strong topcoat. Voila! Instant glitz in 5-minutes or less.

Love these looks? Want sexy nails for your photo shoot? Book your session for the week of July 14 through 18th and I will send you a complimentary bottle of OPI nail polish to complete one of these gorgeous looks!

Boudoir Photo Session {Seductively You, Cicero NY}

Believe it or not, the majority of my clients travel from 1 to 4 hours away from the Syracuse region just to have their boudoir photos taken by me.  After 5+ years you’d think I would not be surprised by it, but I always am amazed at how willing people are to travel so far.  This particular client traveled 3+ hours, meaning her day started very early, probably getting up around 5 am in order to prep and travel for her 9:30 am session.  I asked her a few questions after her session and thought I’d share her thoughts with you!

Q: What was your biggest concern before hiring me for your boudoir session?
A: My initial concern was being nervous about the experience and pulling off the travel, but neither ended up being a problem.

Q: How did you feel during hair and makeup?  Were you satisfied with the styling?
A: I was very happy with the hair and makeup.  It was a treat to be pampered.

Q: What specifically was your favorite part of this experience?
A: Mainly just getting back in touch with my sexy side and doing something for me.

Q: How did you feel driving home after your session?
A: I felt more confident and empowered.

Q: Do you feel the services and products you received were worth the money you spent?
A: YES

Boudoir Menswear

Q: If you were to recommend me to your best friend, what would you say?
A: I already have recommended you and told her that you made me feel very comfortable and are an excellent photographer!

Q: Were your images what you expected prior to booking your session?
A:  They came out BETTER than I expected.

Q:  Any other comments or thoughts you’d like to share?
A:  Thank you for an experience I will never forget!

Where Have I Been? {Syracuse portrait photographer}

Happy hump day!  Just wanted to let you know I’m still here.  Things got a little busy over the last two weeks and blogging was put on the back burner.  We had various doctor appointments to go to, all of us needed hair cuts, and the kids activities were busy (as always).  I also had a much-needed visit with a close friend, a lunch date with another friend and her new baby, as well as a Jack & Jill wedding shower to attend, a moving party to attend, and then we spent a few relaxing days at my parents’ summer cottage.  Add in a broken toe for me and I think that about sums up the last couple of weeks.

Now that I’ve got some time to just sit, I thought it would be good to update you on what’s coming up here at the studio:

SummerSchedule_Thumbnail  (1) There are several studio session openings still available for June.  There is only one week open in July (the 14th thru 18th) and one week open in August (the 4th thru 8th).  So if you are considering a session, please contact me as soon as possible so that you can get your preferred date on my schedule.  Evening consultations, and possibly a few evening portrait sessions, will still take place throughout the entire summer.

TeenModelCall_Thumbnail  (2) There will be two complimentary mini sessions held on June 20th for two local high school seniors.   I’ve got a couple of candidates who have already applied, but am more than happy to take a few more applications.  Just send me an email with your teen’s photo and tell me WHY your teen would like this complimentary session.   You can send this to me at kim (at) photosbykimhill (dot) com.  Only applicants who send both the photo and the WHY will be considered.

SeniorSpecials_Thumbnail  (3) Senior session specials will be in effect for any senior who schedules their session for my open dates in July and August.  You can see the current pricing on my website (just scroll past the model call announcement).  The sale prices will be posted there, too, once they go into effect.  Senior specials run from July 13th through August 9th.

So that wraps it up for now.  I’ll be back tomorrow to share a glimpse at a recent boudoir session.  Have a great day!

Fashion Friday {Boudoir Lingerie – Syracuse, NY}

With the holiday weekend upon us, I thought this particular Fashion Friday boudoir lingerie board was quite fitting.  It has a little bit of a pin-up style to it with a nod to nautical as well, but certainly could be used for any type of boudoir photo session.  I love the fun and flirty styles shown here.  As with some of the other Fashion Friday boards I’ve shared in the past, I think I would like to shoot these outfits on an all white set or even a cool gray set with white accents.  Or if you just happen to have a yacht, that would certainly be an option I would really love.  LOL

Fashion Friday: Boudoir Lingerie {Syracuse Boudoir Photographer}

Wow – this week went by really fast!  In addition to it being my birthday week, I was also rather busy with a super secret personal project that I can’t really share yet (not photography related).  But I promise I will post about it at the end of the month.

So this week’s Fashion Friday storyboard is soft and feminine.  This color combo of peach, pink and cream is so pretty and looks terrific on all skin tones.  I would love to shoot these outfits on an all white set, perhaps even just the white wall and flokati rug, as it will put all of the attention on you!
