Goodbye 2012 – Year In Review {Portrait Photographer, Syracuse NY}

Goodbye 2012 and hello to 2013.  Take a glimpse into a small sample of Syracuse area portrait sessions I did in 2012 with the video posted below.  This year, as I continue to put more of my focus on shooting women’s portraits, you’ll see that all sessions were either high school senior portraits or women’s intimate boudoir portraits.  I’m getting closer and closer to my goal of being an exclusively all women’s studio with an all women team.  Special shout out to Michelle Maw of Makeup by Maw and to Ashley Toia of Ashley Toia Cosmetology for helping to make this a successful year.

Valentine’s Day Portrait Special {Syracuse, NY boudoir photographer}

Valentine's Day photo special

So even though December is not over yet, it is still time to start scheduling portrait sessions for Valentine’s Day gift giving.  We’ll be using the “white set”  for this Valentines boudoir special as it is my most popular set selected by clients.  It’s soft and romantic, but can be accessorized to suit whatever color outfit you decide to wear.  You will receive a limited edition 4×5 image folio and a 10% discount off other products.  The image folio opens like a book and features one image that wraps across the cover along with two smaller vertical images mounted inside.  Here is a sample of the image folio (and you can see another sample by clicking HERE):

To schedule, please contact me through the “Book A Session” icon below or by email to kim@photosbykimhill.com.  A signed agreement and payment in full is due at the time of booking.  Regular boudoir sessions are also available at standard pricing.  The special offer is only valid for sessions scheduled through January 25th.

Elf on the Shelf – Roger Returns

Yes, it’s that mischievous time of the year again.  Roger, our mayhem-making friend from the North Pole, arrived while we were sleeping last night.  He seems a bit excited to be here, don’t ya think?!

Holiday Deadline

Good morning!  I’ve been receiving several last minute requests for photo shoots and figured I should pop on here and let ya know about the holiday deadline dates.  For those interested in loose prints, holiday cards, image boxes or folios, you may still schedule a session provided it is completed before December 10th.  This will allow just enough time for the images to be selected by you, edited by me and then printed at the lab.  Orders placed on or before December 13th should be here by the 21st, though I cannot guarantee it as it really depends on how busy the lab is.

Now if you’re looking for keepsake albums, designer books, gallery canvas, or acrylic wall portraits I’m sorry to say that the deadline has passed.  The lab takes about 6-8 weeks to produce and ship those items.  I would be more than happy to put through your order, but please keep in mind that delivery will likely not take place til the end of February.

Having said that, if you are interested in creating a Valentine’s Day gift for your special someone, now is the time to get on my calendar.  The Valentine boudoir special deadline for loose prints, image boxes and folios is January 28th.  If you prefer the more popular keepsake albums or designer books, or even a gallery canvas or acrylic wall portrait, that deadline is much much sooner…..December 17th.  So contact me ASAP if you want to get on the calendar because dates and times are nearly booked up.

Of course, if you have already completed your session, you are still welcome to order.  Keep in mind that the deadline dates still apply.

Project 52, Weeks 40-46 {Personal Photography Project}

Got a little backlogged with posting my Project 52 images again. Sorry about that. So to get caught up, here are weeks 40 through 46. Not all images fit the theme literally, so use your imagination a bit. LOL  For the first one, my grandmother’s new kitten, Precious. She’s quite a little ball of energy. LOL Week 40, theme SMALL, shot details: taken with my Droid 2 phone, auto flash.

Project 52

Both our kids played floor hockey at the Y this fall. Here, our oldest scored a goal. Week 41, theme SKILL, shot details: handheld, no flash, ISO 1600, 24-70L lens at 46mm, 1/125 at F3.2.

Project 52

Mom and I are season ticket holders to the Famous Artists, a traveling Broadway theater group. This particular show as all about Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons. Week 43, theme EMOTION, shot details: taken with my Droid 2 phone, auto flash.

Project 52

Our youngest’s homework assignment for English Language Arts was to write an email explaining how he would spend a $1k. Week 43, theme WORK, shot details: taken with my Droid 2 phone, auto flash.

Project 52

The days leading up to Hurricane Sandy, the boys and I spent raking in an attempt to get up as much of the leaves as we could before the rain. This is our youngest having a blast (and clearly not raking like he was supposed to be doing). Week 44, theme MEMORIES, shot details: handheld, no flash, 70-200L at 135mm, ISO 320, 1/320 at F2.8.

Project 52

The day before Hurricane Sandy made landfall in NYC, this was the morning sky outside our home. We are about 4 hours northwest of where the storm hit, but still experienced some wind and light rain. Week 45, theme CHANGE, shot details: handheld, no flash, 70-200L at 70mm, ISO 1600, 1/320 at F2.8.

Project 52

And finally the theme for week 46 is WORDS.  This is a great game that I play daily.  Shot details: 24-70L at 32mm, handheld, no flash, ISO 800, 1/200th at F2.8.

And now we’re all caught up with only 6 more weeks to go to finish up the year.  😀

High school senior portraits {Syracuse, NY photographer}

So my niece was here last week for her senior portraits.  Michelle Maw came to do her makeup (which looks awesome right?!).  So my niece had picked out some fun, graphic backdrops for the studio portion of her session, then we went outside for a few more and then off to the pool to wrap things up.  She’s a lifeguard and the Captain on her school’s swim team.  I wanted to create portraits that will bring a smile to her face for years to come…something she can share with her own kids (years from now).  She was a natural in front of the camera – very relaxed and easy to work with.  She brought a good chunk of her wardrobe which was fabulous as we were able to look through her clothes to decide together which pieces would look best for each shot.  And she had a ton of accessories, including this butterfly choker that I absolutely love!

These are just a few of my favorites:

The weather this day was beautiful and you could see that autumn was well underway.  I think the bright yellow leaves add a nice pop to the images.

There is still time to schedule your own high school senior portraits photo session.  The weather is still good enough to even get some fall colors!  So if you haven’t scheduled your own senior portrait session yet, please click the “book a session” button below to contact me about scheduling.

Boudoir portrait session {Cicero NY photographer}

A few weeks ago I received an inquiry from a 30-something year old woman looking to give her new husband a gift for his birthday.  After speaking on the phone a bit and then meeting in person, she went ahead and booked a boudoir portrait session.  She decided to splurge and hired both my makeup artist and hair stylist too!  Total pampering right?!  She brought three different looks and we swapped out the sets to give her a nice variety of images to choose from.  She had pre-purchased the Lovers Package and my absolute favorite from the session was put on the cover of her calendar.  Awesome!

And this pink set was absolutely beautiful in person…love the ruffle details.  It worked beautifully with my white bedroom set.

And this purple set looked amazing against the black bedroom set.  This image was included in her “designer book”.  Would love to show you that whole book as it turned out so beautifully…but for privacy reasons we’re keeping that under wraps.

Are you interested in having your own boudoir portrait session?  Click the “book a session” image below to get more information and set up a consultation with me.  If you are looking to give a gift for the holidays, please keep in mind that many products can take 4-6 weeks to be delivered.  So scheduling before October 12th is high recommended.

Senior portrait session {Central New York photographer}

This morning I had the pleasure of shooting Ashley’s senior portrait session for the yearbook.  She and her grandmother drove 45 minutes to the studio…makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside when people want to work with me so much that they are willing to drive through 7 towns just to get to my place.

If you haven’t scheduled your own senior portrait session yet, please don’t delay.  Most yearbook deadlines are this month and I’m almost fully booked already.  Click the “book a session” button below to contact me about scheduling.
