Changing out the studio {Central New York Photographer}

After last week's massive heat wave here in the northeast, we realized that the air flow in this house is just not that great for keeping it cool. So in an effort to keep the family comfortable over the summer, we've decided to flip flop the family room and studio space. The new studio space is a bit smaller in length, though, as there is a built-in shelf unit on one wall and a fireplace on the other wall.  I think, though, that the fireplace will be a terrific asset for the holiday mini sessions which I will post about in October.  😉

This is turning out to be a big project.  On Saturday, I removed all the portraits from the walls and filled the holes with spackle.  Had to roll up the rug and scrub the hardwood floor (which REALLY needs to be refinished, but that will have to wait for now).  Then on Sunday, I sanded down all the walls because the paint is raspberry semi-gloss and I wanted to be sure that the new paint would adhere and cover over it well.  Today, after getting the kids off to day camp, I was able to really get moving on the primer.  Kilz makes an awesome one that pretty much covered all the raspberry paint in one coat.  And the plan for tomorrow is to pick out a creamy white top coat and finish the job.  I was hoping not to have to paint the moulding, shelves and fireplace . . . but now they just look dingy compared to the primer.  Hmmmmm – well, I guess the decision will be made once I start putting a top coat of paint on the walls.

Here's how it looked after we removed all the livingroom furniture and stuff.  You may have to click on it to see it at the correct size cuz I think this is a little too big.

And here it is after a coat of primer.  Still have to move the cabinets to another room, though.  And here you can see just how badly the floor needs refinishing (foreground).

I'll update this post with more pics as I continue throughout the week.  In the meantime, please send me some strength to finish the job cuz I am thoroughly pooped out!

Have a great night everyone.  🙂

About Kim Hill

I’m passionate about my work and helping women feel comfortable in front of my lens. I want women to feel confident and sexy regardless of age or size. All women are beautiful and I'm here to help them see the beauty in themselves and the boudoir photographic experience is one step in that direction. I am dedicated to bringing a high-quality experience to the boudoir portrait session. My goal is to offer a fun yet relaxing environment where a woman can let down her guard, allowing that inner sparkle to shine. I’ve been a photographer for more than 25 years now. I started as a young child with my parents' 110 film camera, moved on to study photography in college, interned with a wedding photographer for a couple of years and then struck out on my own. I've been doing general portraits since 1998 and boudoir work since 2009. In addition to boudoir, I also offer high school senior portraits, fashion inspired sessions, and business executive head shots.

    I am loving the lighter color (even if it is the primer)! It will look fantastic when you’re done 🙂
