New Products for Photographers {Resources 4 Photographers}

This week I’ve got a couple of new actions and some spring-y marketing templates.  🙂  First up are the actions.  These were both requested from customers so a quick shout-out to you ladies for letting me know exactly what you need.  It’s my pleasure to be able to help you become more efficient with your processing and workflow.

This Pro Photo Action Single 49 is called Blacker Blacks.  If you ever use black seamless paper, you know how challenging it is to get the black to be really BLACK looking.  This action will make it very simple to fix those situations.

Pro Photo Action Single 49

This next one, Pro Photo Action Single 50, is called AMAZING COLOR POP and will pump up the saturation and intensity of colors in your images.  There are 3 different adjustment layers with masks making it completely customizable for your unique photos.

Next up is a series of spring-y marketing template sets.  As with many of my template sets, these are sold separately but are color coordinated so that you can create a cohesive campaign from start to finish that will set your studio apart from others.

First thing you’ll do is create a promotional piece to give to your clients.  Try using this Spring/Easter Template Set.  You can print it up if you want, but why not try going green and sending it by email, posting to your blog, and posting to your facebook page.  🙂  It can be just as effective at a fraction of the cost.

After your Spring mini sessions are over, offer your clients a keepsake mini accordian book.  These are terrific gifts for grandparents and pretty much sell themselves.  Using this quick & easy accordian template set, your design time will be kept in check, allowing you more time to focus on other aspects of your business.  **Special thanks to Laura Kockelkorn for the images displayed in the product preview below**

Accordian Book Template Set 3
When you deliver the final products to your client, be sure to thank them with this fabulous Thank You Card template set.  Now you can add their wallet images on the right side, or if they choose not to order wallets, you could have some rep cards printed up and attach them instead.  I would just use an exacto knife to slice a couple of slits for the cards/wallets to be held in place.

Thank You Card Template 5

If you prefer a less grand gesture, you can opt to use just the referral cards alone.  The same thank you message is offered.  And you can customize the text to offer an incentive for your client to refer their friends to you for their own portraits.  This is one of the most effective word-of-mouth advertising methods around and it is truly inexpensive too!

Referral Card Template 5

So that wraps up the new products for today.  Have a happy hump day everyone!!  🙂

New Year, New Project {Central New York Photographer}

Well happy new year to all.  It’s been quite a while since I posted last……been doing all sorts of other things during the month of December.  Between the holidays and having the kids home for nearly 2 weeks over winter recess, I just didn’t find the time to blog.  But today is a new day and here we are.  🙂

So I decided to embark on a personal photography project – something just for my own personal enjoyment.  After consulting with some colleagues about what my project topic could be about, I’ve settled on architecture as it relates to windows and doors, specifically.  I don’t have a daily or even a weekly goal, but rather if I see something in my travels that fits within the project theme, then I will photograph it to the best of my ability.

Today is the first day of the project.  It just sort of happened by chance, actually.  My youngest son and I were looking out the large studio window as we watched his brother walk to the bus stop this morning. He commented on how big the icicles are which hang from the edge of the roof. I immediately saw the opportunity to grab a silhouette. This is actually a full color image, even though at first glance it looks like a black & white…..notice the brown house in the background?

The only thing I did to it was convert from raw, cropped, and used the patch tool to remove our thermometer that is mounted on the outside of the window. Oh and the black edge along the bottom is part of the window….this is a bow window that sits about 5 inches off the hardwood floor. I tried cropping it off, but then it looked too tight against his feet.

Hope you are enjoying this beautiful winter weather.  I just like the view…..not the cold that comes with it.  C-ya!

The Cult – In Concert {Central New York Photographer}

Wow – what a terrific show last night.  Hubby and I have been long-time fans of The Cult, specifically Ian Astbury (singer) and Billy Duffy (guitarist).  We've been listening to their music since the mid-1980's.  So when I heard they were coming to Rochester, which is only about 90 minutes from here, we decided to go.  We haven't been to a concert in over 10 years, but this is one band we would give anything to see live.

They played at the Rochester Armory which looks like a huge castle.  This cell phone pic really doesn't do it justice, but it's all I brought cuz I figured no cameras would be allowed in.

Armory-Rochester_450-Web

Once inside, it was completely open.  There were no seats.  And there were bars flanking the left and right sides.  It was quite a mix of people and age groups – ranging from young kids (say around 10 years old, maybe) with their parents to college kids and then up to our own age bracket (40-50 years old).  Everyone looked the rocker part – wearing black from head to toe, some with their bandana's tied on their bald heads, others with tattoos and piercings.  I had flashbacks to my high school and college years when I saw a few people sporting mohawks that were spiked at least 8 inches high.  LOL  So this is the view of the stage while we were waiting for them to start.  We were a bit early so it was really empty for a while.

Waiting_450-Web

Then the opening band came out.  I never heard of Boneyard before, but they were really great (sorry, can't find any web info on them).  I guess you'd call it southern heavy metal?  They were awesome and really got the place jumpin'.  When they were done, there was about an hour delay waiting for The Cult to come on stage.  During that time, members of Boneyard were walking around and hubby had a chance to meet and talk with the bassist.  Pretty cool.  Here's a pic of Boneyard doing their first song.  ETA:  Thanks to the commenter below, HERE is their MySpace Page.  🙂

BoneYard_450-Web

Finally, at about 9:45 pm, The Cult arrived on stage.  Using my phone, I got some video of their opening song.  The image on the screen behind them is from their first album – Dreamstime.  Oh and the only original members were Ian and Billy.  Both totally rocked the place!!  And their new members (guitar, bass, drums) all did amazing, too.  It was probably THE BEST concert I have ever been to (and given I'm 41 years old, you can imagine I've been to more than a few).  Here's the video I shot with my blackberry storm (follow this link if the embedded version errors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_sz6ofdOe8.

The Cult played for about 45 minutes and then took a brief break (maybe 10 minutes).  They came back and played for another 45 minutes.  Featured songs included the entire set from LOVE and then some other fan favorites including Fire Woman, Wild Flower, Dirty Little Rock Star, Sun King, Electric Ocean, etc.  There was continuous video streaming behind them – it was primarily flashes of various images like colorful bodies moving, native Americans, the Berlin Wall coming down, etc.  The images really seemed to fit with the music well, albeit rather brief and flashy.  I suppose it could send some people into a fit since the images were streaming so quickly.  At one point, I wandered over to stage left and was able to see the guy running the lights and videos.  He had a couple of computers hooked up and all kinds of crazy was going on there.  LOL

So here are a bunch more videos that hubby took with his phone.  Quality isn't great, but you get the gist.  :)  Enjoy your Sunday.
